Handloom labels and markdowns

Accounting for every Handloom Mark and India Handloom Brand label, and marking slow stock down without letting one person reprice the shop.

Registrations

Inventory → Handloom labels. Record the Textiles Committee certificate first — the scheme (Handloom Mark or India Handloom Brand), its number, the name registered and the dates it is valid. A renewal is recorded as a new registration, so the one in force on any past date still shows.

Receiving a roll of labels

  1. Choose the registration the labels are issued against — it must be in force on the day they arrive.
  2. Enter the first and last label numbers on the roll, e.g. HLM0012001 to HLM0012500. Both must share their letters and number of digits, which catches typing slips before hundreds of labels are recorded.
  3. Enter what the roll cost, if you want it booked. Every number on the roll is recorded once; the same number can never be received twice.

Putting labels on

Every label is used once. A label already on a piece, or void, is refused with the piece it is on. The label number prints on the tax invoice and receipt, and from the day it goes on, sales of that piece or product count as marked for the Marketing Incentive.

Spoilt and lost labels, and moving them

The label account

For any dates, per branch and kind of label: opening balance, received, sent and received from other branches, used, spoilt, and in hand — plus how many pieces sold and how many of those were labelled. Download it, or the full label register, as Excel for the scheme inspector.

Markdowns

Inventory → Markdowns. A markdown is a new price, not a discount at the counter — the till sells at it without a manager, which is why it is approved first.

Rules by age

  1. Propose a rule: what it covers (all stock, a category, a product or an attribute such as a weave) and its bands, e.g. 10% off stock held over 180 days, 20% over a year.
  2. Someone other than the proposer approves it. By default outlet managers propose and head office approves, because a rule reprices every outlet.
  3. Run rules now marks down everything the approved rules reach today. A tagged piece gets its own price; loose stock gets a new price from today. Running again does nothing more.

Clearance sales

A named sale — a percentage off, between two dates, at chosen branches, for all stock or a category. Once approved, the till applies it by itself on those days. Where both a rule and a sale apply, the lower price wins.
